Sometimes police try to solve crimes with very general descriptions. Earlier this month, police in Milwaukee released a description and sketch of a person they believe has committed four sexual assaults in the Milwaukee area. Police gave an age that ranged 15 years and a height description that varied by 5 inches. The person also had hair that was described as dark. Many times these descriptions are vague and police use them in hopes of gathering new evidence.
While it is important to be sensitive to the reported victims of these incidents, it is also important that anyone who might be accused of such crimes has a chance at a fair trial. Sometimes police use vague evidence in sexual assault cases, which can lead to charges being filed against the wrong person.
When someone is accused of a sex crime it is important that they for a rigorous criminal defense. It might be wise for someone charged with these crimes to speak with a criminal defense attorney. They can help a person understand their rights and how court proceedings might work.
Many times these charges can have a stigma attached to them that can make it hard for a person to maintain employment or find a new job. On top of not being able to find a job, criminal charges can also have other consequences such as issues with child custody. Because of the harsh punishment that comes with a conviction of a sex crime, it is important to formulate a rigorous defense.
