Crimes of a sexual nature are extremely serious. It is important that those charged with sex crimes take the charges serious and that those investigating do not violate the rights of the accused.
Last week two men were charged with sex crimes in Milwaukee after two women accused them of being pimps and forcing the women to have sex with other men. One man was charged with various felony counts and the other man was charged with first-degree sexual assault and intimidating a witness.
The two men will need a rigorous defense. The charges against one of the men involved the minor, which makes them even more severe. Many times the reports in the media only use police reports as their source. Police reports are meant to be accounts of that the police and investigators, or the accusers, say happened. Although it is important to be sensitive to people who say they have been assaulted, it is also important to remember that the accused also have rights.
People who are accused of crimes don't often get the chance to tell their side of the story until they face trial. This means that much of what the public is exposed to is only the story the authorities are telling.
Because of this, it would be wise for those accused of a sex crime in Milwaukee to speak with an experienced criminal defense attorney. They can help someone understand what questions they should and should not answer when talking with authorities. They can also make sure that the person accused has not had their rights violated during the investigation leading up to the arrest.
