Parents never want to hear about violence in their children's schools. When it comes to fights between teenagers there is more than one side to a story. Last week, eight teenagers were arrested at the James Madison High School and charge with disorderly conduct. Three of the teens also face resisting or obstructing an officer charges.
School fights can start for various reasons, whether it is accused bullying, or just two friends that have been letting feelings build up for too long. Either way, violence can lead to charges, even of those who just were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Sometimes students could just be walking down the hall or in the lunch room and get caught in the middle of a fight, where they have done nothing wrong. Sometimes officers can arrest the wrong person because they were simply standing in the wrong place, and through the chaos, mistakenly arrested an uninvolved person.
These arrests also come just after 12 teenagers were arrested at another Milwaukee high school. The fact that another fight recently happened probably means police officers in schools were on heightened alert, and it is possible situations were quickly escalated because of recent violence.
Because authorities are often quick to make arrests during intense situations, it might be wise for someone who is arrested from a fight to consult with a Milwaukee criminal defense attorney. An attorney can help conduct an independent investigation to make sure the accused person's rights are preserved.
