Milwaukee woman charged after falsely accusing man of sex offense

Many times in the news, we hear about people getting arrested for sexual assault. We immediately assume they are guilty, thinking about how terrible their crime is. The stories in the news seem pretty convincing that the person did it. Although, legitimate cases of sexual offense are devastating for victims, and should be approached with caution for the victim's feelings, there are cases when people are falsely accused.

This week a Milwaukee woman was arrested and charged with obstructing an officer after she falsely accused a man of sexually assaulting her in the back of his vehicle. The incident allegedly happened at a Culver's restaurant, while exchanging a young child that the two share custody of.

Police started their investigation and arrested the man. He told police that nothing had happened in the Culver's parking lot, but he did meet the woman in a theater parking lot where they had consensual sex. Police obtained surveillance video from the theater proving the man's story was accurate.

When confronted about the incident, the woman later admitted that she followed the man to the theater parking lot and consensually engaged in sexual activity with the man. She was then arrested and charged for making the false accusations to a police officer.

It is unclear if the man was ever charge with a crime before he was proven innocent by the video tape, but he surely faced embarrassment and could have faced a lengthy legal battle, had the video not been obtained. Sometimes people make false accusations and many times victims have an advantage when it comes to sexual offenses in Milwaukee. Because of the sensitivity of sexual assault allegations, it would be wise to consult with an attorney if you are ever charged with a similar crime.
